Qui tam lawsuits brought under the False Claims Act for fraud against the federal government have returned
more than $8.4 billion to the government since Congress amended the False Claims Act
in 1986, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. Roughly one-fourth of the qui tam
recoveries are due to whistleblower cases brought by Phillips & Cohen LLP and its
attorneys.
Recoveries resulting from all qui tam and non-qui tam cases brought under the False
Claims Act from 1986 to 2004 total $13.5 billion. Whistleblower rewards for qui tam cases exceed $1.4 billion.
In fiscal year 2004, qui tam lawsuits resulted in recoveries of $554 million.
Whistleblowers received rewards that totaled $108 million.
